ABSTRACT

Due to the nature of our situation, concerning the War in the Anayatoll, the imperial throne has asked this counsel to investigate the geography of the (As the honorable Arch-secretary put it) "South of the world." This to enable, and to help in the consideration and the planning of possible future imperial missions and excursion to these areas of which we speak of as the "South", or the "Utmost south". This reportage, and the investigation which led to it details a picture of what we know about the fringe areas of our world.

Now the official Geopolitical map in use in our state is the Fourth-imperial-Cartograph. The borders of this widely distributed map, created by Ser Winhelm of Drakeshire in the early fourth age, depict mostly the area surrounding the Valednon, as well as western Sebatos, northern Leebrem as well as the great planes to the east of the Great-mountain range. (The map has of course been updated often by the cartographical council to reflect political changes.)

Beyond this map, which was created by the extensive expedition of Ser Winhelm with the help of the imperial navy, and that of the Seledorians, our information becomes sparse.

There is ofcourse the maps drawn by imperial geographers on the eastern campaigns of Rinnevir III Mersiam Bel-Heirion, during his co-emperorship with Esheltór Bel-Heirion. These are available to the public, though rare and often politically outdated.

There are also the maps of southern Leebrem, and the "Thundering coast" (Also known as the Black Coast). These are national secrets, mostly reserved to the use of the legions, yet there are varioua trading guilds with their own more or less accurate versions of these maps. These maps detail the so called "Versomman-expedition" in which the empire established multiple outposts to the south of the 4IC (Fourth imperial cartograph). There are three functional outposts in the thundering coast, though communication with them is limited. The empire has officially* no geographic information beyond this point. (Asel-Nár, the citadel of the southguard). This information should be seen as of paramount importance to the throne. Paramount importance especially, since, as the honourable REDACTED has mot failed to make clear, our enemy in the west, the Seledori imperial state greatly surpasses us in the field of geography.

It has for a while been accepted as fact, that the Seledori had already mapped the entirety of the Aghayarian-coastline in the ancient times, during the reigns of the semi-mythical seafarer emperors. In later ages, and as REDACTED had confirmed, the Seledori have indeed founded many colonies in areas outside our prior knowledge. And though the weakening of the state has forced them to limit their imperialism, there are still hundreds, maybe thousands of Seledori colonies, in the areas they have mapped, and we have not.

Due to reasons certainly obvious to the Legion high-command, and the Lord Mortemir, a complete understanding of geography not only inside the field of action, but beyond it, is of great value when planning a campaign. After all, the world is absolutely interconnected, and to set a boundary behind which what happens stops being of interest, is foolishness. Luckily through hard and arduous work, the Cartographical-council dares to make certain estimates that, though empirically unproven, can be used as a framework when making military decisions involving the geography of areas outside the common imperial cartograph.
